Introduction

Everyone has a chance to dream - not everyone realises them - this will be my story, my dream.

Ever since I was a young boy I have always liked well made machines - 'classics' by todays standards - I always liked tales of adventure too - the bigger, the longer, the harder, the better.

Four years ago I embarked upon the first part of that adventure - which was to emigrate to the Land of the long white cloud (New Zealand) - I also started saving up for my journey across the world - London to Wellington. The car in question for such a trip was to be a 1967 MG Magnette.

The trip is to be the most ambitious of adventures that I have ever taken and it will be independent and I will be unaccompanied. Europe, the Middle East and Asia - at least two sea crossings, 'cartes de passage' for the MG - my own visas, tool kit, maps, Lonely Planet guides, changes of currency, spare parts, camping accessories and a field kitchen - not to mention a healthy amount of whit and invention will be needed.

The date of departure is scheduled for 3rd May. My plan is to update this site on a weekly basis to share the sense of adventure to fellow enthusiasts. (And to give those of you a chance to help sponsor the trip - perhaps a beer for the day or my dinner that evening, maybe even a whole days sponsor.) You will get a mention in the blog, where you will be my spiritual companion for the day.

Until then keep reading, I have my last minute adjustments to make.

Sponsors

As with all big projects its the support from friends that makes the difference,so I would like to say a big big thankyou to Paul and Mike and Linda and Emily for helping with the specialist parts and for being so efficient and swift and proffesional.
So I shall raise a glass to MG BITS when at my first port of call in Belgium where I am reliably told they sell the finest Beer in the world brewed by none other than Trappist monks......DING DONG!!!!

Kolkachec

Well I am still waiting in Istanbul for news on that all important visa......
there is plenty to do around here and on the island of Buyakada .....
lots of local people on the island inviting me for some food or a beer...
in fact the other night I thought I would just nip out for a bite to eat in one of the local quick eateries while everyone was sitting watching the sun go down over the harbour....
the locals all said 'try Kolkachec'...I think thats how it's spelt...well I was keen to try it and asked what it was ...well it turns out to be this tasty little number made from lambs intestine.....mmmmhh...I thought...I had feasted on much offal...you know horse tails and deep fried toenails and other beauties such as ocelots nose and really felt like a run of the mill leg or shoulder cut...just for a change mind....anyway off I set and there was the sign kolcachec....soooo I gave in and got it...not too bad...a bit earthy but otherwise ok...probably not order it again, but the memory will stay with me for ever.....
SALAD TONIGHT!
Oh and got shat on by the biggest bloody seagull...although I did not get a good look at him...probably the size of a sparrow now....my goodness I was in such a mess I can tell you...I was on my way to see someone to the ferry boat back to the main centre when it happened and I was wearing my last clean clothes at the time....funny how everyone says 'lucky' after such an occurance and 'oh you should buy a lottery ticket..I bought some washing powder, thank you please. ...no more dog attacks though...just jelly fish twice...

Chris,

Was nice meeting you on Büyükada! It's such a great place there and all around İstanbul. Hope you've made progress with shipping from there. Good luck and look forward to reading more on your trip!

Yes, the seagull was actually one of my minions getting you back for the Kolkachec. The pork chop on the bumper sounds like a very solid idea, just drive fast. Peace and good energy, Brett
