Introduction

Everyone has a chance to dream - not everyone realises them - this will be my story, my dream.

Ever since I was a young boy I have always liked well made machines - 'classics' by todays standards - I always liked tales of adventure too - the bigger, the longer, the harder, the better.

Four years ago I embarked upon the first part of that adventure - which was to emigrate to the Land of the long white cloud (New Zealand) - I also started saving up for my journey across the world - London to Wellington. The car in question for such a trip was to be a 1967 MG Magnette.

The trip is to be the most ambitious of adventures that I have ever taken and it will be independent and I will be unaccompanied. Europe, the Middle East and Asia - at least two sea crossings, 'cartes de passage' for the MG - my own visas, tool kit, maps, Lonely Planet guides, changes of currency, spare parts, camping accessories and a field kitchen - not to mention a healthy amount of whit and invention will be needed.

The date of departure is scheduled for 3rd May. My plan is to update this site on a weekly basis to share the sense of adventure to fellow enthusiasts. (And to give those of you a chance to help sponsor the trip - perhaps a beer for the day or my dinner that evening, maybe even a whole days sponsor.) You will get a mention in the blog, where you will be my spiritual companion for the day.

Until then keep reading, I have my last minute adjustments to make.

Sponsors

As with all big projects its the support from friends that makes the difference,so I would like to say a big big thankyou to Paul and Mike and Linda and Emily for helping with the specialist parts and for being so efficient and swift and proffesional.
So I shall raise a glass to MG BITS when at my first port of call in Belgium where I am reliably told they sell the finest Beer in the world brewed by none other than Trappist monks......DING DONG!!!!

May 30th - June 5th

I arrıved at an aırbase to meet my host... A MIG 21 fıghter pilot no less...
I was given instructions to find his wifes parents house some 30km away in town...so off I set even though it was getting dark...eventually I found it despite the road names being in some sort of dyslexic cyryrlic....mmmmhhhh...tricky indeed....The Parents were very hospitable...I mean very!!!!!...food was prepared and Rakia offered(we've been here before)
I slept well...
The next day İ met up wıth Nasco, my host, and taken to the vıllage....what can I say...simple pleasures....fresh cherries everyday from the orchard a 15 mınute cycle rıde away and a hot shower from the local sprıngs...of which there are many...and fresh, healing sprıng water...lovely...we went go-karting and I met a fellow Kıwı who is cycling to Indıa ...unbelievable....must have a backside made of Titanium...anyhow the days were filled wıth bike rides, fresh local food freshly prepared and natural spring water and good humour.
Then I was asked to go Paragliding.....
WHAT A MASSIVE THRILL OR WHAT PEOPLE...I FLEW LIKE A BIRD FOR AGES BEFORE FNALLY LANDING IN...guess what a cherry orchard...great to quench my thirst after the 20 mınute hike up the Rodoppi mountain with a 50 pound tandem paraglider on my back...
then we took some buggies out for a spin.....
Nice relaxing day after nearly suffering a wild dog attack (8 dogs) cycling through the forest the day before on the way to Banza' for a cup of tea and I fell off the bike over the handle bars (don't worry I am still in one piece folks)...applied the break too hard going down down hill through a big puddle...lucky the dogs were not there to greet me.....
My Hosts ...Nasco...Naska and Justin were fantastic and so welcoming...I had fresh honey from the grandfathers beehive in my freshly prepared local tea....mouthwatering....
I even had a send off the morning I left for Turkey by Neil and Nadia and given food for my days drive....
