The days are at a so so tranquil pace, nights under the stars with Turkish holiday makers, some Russian too, laying on the beach watching the days go slowly but unexpected things happen.
One day in question I was asked to go for dinner at a place near the Istanbul Formula 1 turkish race track (I confess I didn't know they had one), but off we set into the back and beyond to get there, stopping along the way at one of the passengers melon farm ... he picked a nice and juicy one for the BBQ. We arrived early evening and 5 Turkish chaps started to build the big oil drum BBQ...They gathered the old wood from the surrounding farm land and some gauze(always handy for getting things going)...They threw on the shells from walnuts and hazelnuts to give that extra something and poured generous measures of Rakii(I learnt my lesson and stuck to a few beers and some water)...Then we all helped turn the homemade kebabs and marinated assortment of meats...tomatoes were also to appear with there soulmates green chillies whole roasted...and our bread was warmed next to the flame while we were witness to a glorious sunset over the hills surrounding Istanbul but in the countryside....
It was a truly wondrous evening, the conversations mostly in sign language...strange how we all seemed to know exactly what we were all saying in our native tongues after a few glasses of pop....
Somehow we all arrived back at the campsite in one piece way after midnight...
The following day a huge storm blew across our peaceful campsite....thunder, lightening and great bolts of electrical activity...
two huge trees felled by direct hits on the campsite I have never beenso close to this sort of thing ... the air was filled with static.
Then it was back to sunshine.

The trip is to be the most ambitious of adventures that I have ever taken and it will be independent and I will be unaccompanied. Europe, the Middle East and Asia - at least two sea crossings, 'cartes de passage' for the MG - my own visas, tool kit, maps, Lonely Planet guides, changes of currency, spare parts, camping accessories and a field kitchen - not to mention a healthy amount of whit and invention will be needed.
The date of departure is scheduled for 3rd May. My plan is to update this site on a weekly basis to share the sense of adventure to fellow enthusiasts. (And to give those of you a chance to help sponsor the trip - perhaps a beer for the day or my dinner that evening, maybe even a whole days sponsor.) You will get a mention in the blog, where you will be my spiritual companion for the day.
Introduction
Everyone has a chance to dream - not everyone realises them - this will be my story, my dream.
Ever since I was a young boy I have always liked well made machines - 'classics' by todays standards - I always liked tales of adventure too - the bigger, the longer, the harder, the better.

Until then keep reading, I have my last minute adjustments to make.
